Portfolio

Well here we are at the meat of the site, the portfolio, where you can view examples of my web development work including UI and website development as well as front-end scripting (JavaScript). Most of the work here is done primarily on the Windows platform though I work on Mac exclusively for my freelance projects.

My home/freelance set up is a PowerBook G4 (PPC) running OS X 10.5.8. On a typical project I’ll use the following software:

In addition to the above list, I couldn’t make it through a day without some of Firefox’s fine selection of plugins. Specifically Firebug, Web Developer Toolbar, and to a lesser extent, Dummy Lipsum Generator. If you’re not developing with Firefox you’re doing more work than you should.

For various projects I’ve also used Macromedia Flash, Adobe After Effects, QuickTime, and OmniGraffle.

UI Development (PixelMEDIA)

Screenshot: Acquire Media

AcquireMedia

Acquire Media needed a new UI for their NewsEdge application. The project involved building out fully functional shell templates using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The interface needed to be fully fluid as well as featuring drag & drop, expand/collapse, and sorting functionality. Dojo toolkit was the primary JavaScript library used with jQuery used to handle additional functionality.

Among the items I developed was a new tri-state checkbox plugin for jQuery (which will be released shortly) to handle the 3 state checkbox lists.

Health Dialog

I handled full front-end development of Health Dialog’s quiz modules. The quiz modules are dynamic, XML-driven quizzes to help their users gain a better understanding of their medical conditions. The quiz functionality is written entirely in JavaScript.

One of the items I developed during this project was a small cross-browser XML node import plugin for jQuery. This plugin allows cross-browser inserting of XML nodes directly into an HTML document, fixing some IE specific issues.

PixelMEDIA was tasked with the job of rebuilding Liberty Mutual’s “eService” online Account Management utility. My duties included HTML/CSS development of the site (shared with another developer) and full development of the UI/JavaScript functionality.

Indie Music New England

Indie Music New England is a pet project of mine. I created the site partially to help the local music community in southern New Hampshire and partially to get my hands dirty with WordPress’s innards. The site’s theme is an amalgamation initially built off of Performancing’s Modernpaper theme. I’ve since tweaked it quite a bit (and I continue to tweak it constantly).
